Restoration Ministries December 2011

We arrived from our deputation on December 8th. Vickie and I are excited about being back in Guatemala. It was great to visit with friends, family, and churches. It was great to see everyone.

Operation Warm-up

On December 20th 2011, Melissa, Gustavo ( Melissa's husband) and I went to see Pastor Rafael Avilar at the church in Concepcion Las Minas. The purpose of our visit was to hand out blankets in two villages near the church. We went to one village that does not have a name so we called it ( Aldea Savanas) or blanket village. The other village is called Liquidambo ( the spelling may not be correct). These villages are located about 30 minutes from the El Salvador border. We gave 20 blankets to children in the village of Liquidambo and then 35 blankets to the children in the Blanket village.

Operation Warm-up is a ministry to give blankets to children living in the higher mountain elevations. Many children sleep on the dirt floor while some sleep on homemade beds without sheets and blankets. It is the goal of this ministry to provide blankets to children to keep them warm during the months of November thru January. For only $10, a child can be kept warm during the cold months of the year.

Visiting Pastor Israel

On December 22nd, I went to the village of Guaybo to visit with Pastor Israel. We spent a couple of hours talking and sharing about the ministry and future of the Guaybo church. It is the desire of the Pastor and the leaders of the church to build a new church. The church they now have is made of mud and straw, and the walls are crumbling down. Their desire is to construct a church of block . I told him I would pray for God to provide the finances to buy the materials so they could begin.

Guatemalan Christmas supper with friends
Our friend Anna Mercedes and her three children came over on the 24th of December for supper. We had a great Christmas supper together.
